P1 - Audio

In this document I'll be looking into four media products with different methods of sounds and cover all of the key terms for sound in this unit.

For starter I'll be looking into the trailer of a film called "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End". It is a movie about an interpretation of the life of pirates and with one of the main characters being the pirate named Jack Sparrow. For the trailer the types of methods of sound that are used are Diegetic Sound, Anchorage sound and a Soundtrack. Diegetic sound is when sound appears to come from the world of the narrative with included dialog and sound effects. With this method of sound, it allows the producers to give a feel of the location while still hearing the people talking or hearing a distant action happening. For example, close to the ending of the trailer we can see the pirates going to a big whirlpool we get to hear the intense waters which gives the feel that a final battle awaits. For Anchorage, which is the way sound or text that are used in media products to pin down the mood or meaning of the product for the audience and the way that this technique is used here is in the fight scene near the end. The music becomes intense, and you can hear two swords hitting one another. With the hitting of the sword the audience gets an understanding that a fight is going on. And lastly, Soundtrack which is the final audio edit with all diegetic and non-diegetic sound/ You can hear this audio through the entirety of the trailer.

The second media product I'll be looking into is a trailer for "Black Adam"
It contains Sound Bridge, Theme Tune, trope, Sound bridge is a sound method that is used to aid the continuity of the visual editing by extending a piece of music or dialogue over two or more shots. The next sound method is Theme Tune where a piece of music that is offer written specifically for a radio program, television programs, video game or film and is usually paying throughout the intro, title sequence and or closing credits. And the last sound method is trope where the uses of specific sound that relate to genres are often also called tropes because they are so familiar, they can communicate different ideas or themes. This can also be used to communicate with the audience with audio to condone if there is action, a face-off, different character getting introduced or to give a feel of the current location with ambient sounds.

The third media product I'll be looking into is a game trailer for "The Last of Us Part 2"
It contains Sting, Incidental music and Sound motif. A Sting is a short, sharp piece of music primarily used as a form of section of a show to indicate the end of a scene. or to indicate that a dramatic climax is imminent in a drama text. Incidental music is the second sound method that has emotive music added to create emotion for the audience.

The last sound method is Sound motif, where a sound effect or combination of sound effects that are associated with a particular character, setting, situation or idea throughout an audio- or audio-visual media product. They also condition the audience emotionally for the intervention. arrival or actions of a particular character. There is also use of Atmospheric sound which gives a proper feel of the environment and gives a set mood for the listener for example when in a forest the viewer should get a feel of calmness and piece and if you add in different

And lastly ill look into and advertisement for the iPhone 13 product.
It contains Foley sound, Non-diegetic, Brand identity and Jingle. Foley sound is the production and recording of sound effects. Sounds such as breaking glass, walking on gravel or snow, or creaking doors are very often created by foley artists to enhance the realism. Non-diegetic sound is when sound that is added for atmosphere or mood and includes incidental music or a score. Brand identity is the visible element of a brand, such as name, colors, designs and logo, which identify and distinguish the brand in a consumer's mind. Jingle is the final sound method, and it is used as a short slogan, verse or tune designed to be easily remembered, especially used in advertising.
